Board Members

President: Ufuk Gokcen

Represented the Republic of Turkey in the Washington State as an Honorary Consul General from June 2002 to Dec. 2013. Past president of the Washington State Consular Association from Jan. 2011 to Jan 2014 and vice-president from 2009 to 2011. Founding member and president of the American Turkish Academy of Washington State (ATA-WA). Served as member of Seattle World Affairs Council Board of Directors from Jan 2007 through Jan. 2014. Organized many inter-community projects to promote peace, friendship and better understanding in the Pacific Northwest region such as the Anzac Day commemoration together with Australian and New Zealand communities, many events and exhibitions with the Jewish and Sephardim communities. Founding member of the annual Seattle International Children’s Friendship Festival, Turkish Cultural Festival-Turkfest, Turkish Heritage Month celebrations, Seattle Turkish Film Festival, Ahiska Fest, Assembly of Turkish American Associations (ATAA) Pacific Northwest Regional Chapter, Turkish American Chamber of Commerce and Industry Pacific Northwest Chapter (TACCI-NW), Turkish American Student Association (TASA) and nation-wide Turkish American Scientists and Scholars Association (TASSA). Initiated the project to establish two Turkish Studies Endowment Funds at the University of Washington. Served as the first Regional V.P. of ATAA-Pacific NW from 2000 to 2003, president of TACAWA in 2000-2001 and vice president from 1997 to 2000. Working for the Boeing Company as a senior structures engineering instructor. Member of FAA and EASA endorsed industry-wide Commercial Aviation Composite Repair Committee. Working with University of Washington to provide courses in composites materials and repair engineering. Mentors youth at Aviation High School and Boeing American Indian Society. More than 30 awards winner atBoeing for technical achievements and community and customer services. Received distinguished service awards from the Washington State Governor,Consular Association, ATAA, and local Turkish American community as well as the top runner up for the 2014 Washington Ethnic Heritage Council Spirit of Liberty Award.

Vice President: Tufan Erdinc

Tufan is currently a Software Engineer for Oracle. He was born in Mardin, Turkey and raised in Izmir, Turkey. He has completed his Bsc from Ege University in Izmir, and MS degree in Computer Engineering from Dokuz Eylul University in Izmir. He has been living in the greater Seattle area since 2000 where he first joined Microsoft Corporation as a software engineer. He is currently serving his first term on the TACAWA board and is mainly responsible of managing and administering technology and IT infrastructure of the organization. Outside of work Tufan is interested in watching sports, playing soccer and is full time dad for two young boys.

Treasurer: Ozgur Koc

Besides his passion promoting the benefits of healthy eating and supporting worthy causes for children, Ozgur has been working at Crunch Pak as a Director for 8 years. He has been in the United States for 15 years, and has lived in Portland, the Bay Area, and Seattle. After his volunteer work as a President for the Turkish American Student Cultural Association in Portland , he has been serving as one of steering committee members for Seattle International Children’s Friendship Festival.

Secretary: Huseyin Erdim

Huseyin is a Systems Engineer working for Boeing. He was born and raised in Ankara, Turkey. He received his PhD degree in mechanical engineering from University of Connecticut in 2009. Prior to moving to United States in 2005, he received his BS and MSc degrees in Mechanical engineering from Middle East Technical University and Koc University respectively. He is currently working on advanced manufacturing and geometry problems. In addition to serving on the TACAWA Board, Huseyin has been working in the organizing committee of the Seattle Turkish Film Festival. He likes traveling, photography and painting.

Marketing and Communication- Spokes Person: Banu Erdim

Born and raised in Adana, Turkey, Banu has been living in Seattle since 2014. Her background is architecture, and she is interested in sustainable architecture and design. In addition to serving on the TACAWA Board, Banu is a member of the Seattle Turkish Film Festival. When not working or volunteering, Banu dedicates her time to baking, cooking, friends and family.

Fundraising and Asset Management Chair: Levent Hamdemir

Levent is a Marketing and Management champion with years of experience in Consumer Goods, Retail and Health organizations. His focus on improving marketing communications in a digital era and delivering strategic thinking to world-class brands have been driving force behind his career. Levent, with his passion for results and analytical thinking leading actions, have been recognized as a change agent who stimulates organizational curiosity and develops lean teams to deliver sustainable results. His spare time is dedicated to his family and supporting organizations that are working for a positive cause.

Special Projects Chair: Bengu Efe

Bengu is a self-driven professional currently working at Capital One having in-depth experience in strategy, digital product management, and product marketing. She is a former management consultant, and has worked at various financial institutions leading several critical cross functional projects. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Engineering from the Istanbul Technical University in Turkey and an MBA in Strategy and Marketing from the Duke University Fuqua School of Business. She has been in the United States for 9 years, and lived in several areas including North Carolina, Boston, Washington DC, San Francisco, and Seattle. Bengu is passionate about creating opportunities for people to meet and build relationships in order to support and learn from each other. In addition to serving on the TACAWA Board, Bengu is a member of the Turkfest organizing committee. She likes outdoor activities including hiking, biking, skiing, and traveling.
