Münir Nurettin Beken and August Denhard have created a vibrant duo performance that blends the traditions of nearly 600 years of Middle Eastern and European music. Their concert presents selections from medieval and Renaissance Europe, Ottoman court music, and contemporary compositions. Their seamless presentation of these varied elements results in a blending of styles that at once contrast and complement each other. This performance features works by Francesco Canova da Milano, Joanambrosio Dalza, Diego Ortiz, Tanburi Emin Aga, and others.
Beken and Denhard have performed as a duo since 2003, presenting concerts at Town Hall Seattle’s Zing Go the Strings series, the concert series at Siena College in Loudenville, NY, and at Seattle’s Music Center of the Northwest. They are recipients of an Artist Support Grant from Jack Straw Productions in Seattle and are in the process of completing a CD recording.
