TACAWA 2011-2012 Board Election Results

Submitted by admin on Wed, 03/02/2011 - 2:02pm

Per TACAWA's bylaws, board elections were held on Sunday, February 27th at the Old Redmond Schoolhouse in Redmond. Eighteen members were in attendance, and ten proxy votes were received, bringing the total number of votes to 28. This was two votes short of quorum. In instances where quorum is not reached at board elections, TACAWA's bylaws allow for the meeting to be ended by the Board and re-convened, with elections then being conducted by majority vote of those in attendance. This procedure was followed on Sunday. The meeting was dissolved by the board and immediately reconvened. The 2010-2011 board was later absolved, and elections were conducted by an election committee composed of Melissa Firuz, Feral Gokcen, and Kathy Kiral.

Five candidates presented themselves for five board positions, and one candidate was presented for auditor. After serving on our board for three consecutive years, our previous president Levent Besik did not renew his candidacy due to his future personal plans. Since there was not a sixth candidate, voting was conducted as a vote of confidence for the candidates as a unified board. The vote of confidence by the voters present was unanimous.

The TACAWA Board for 2011-2012 is:

Sevket Numanoglu - President

Jeanene Mitchell - Vice President

Bertan Aygun - Treasurer

Merve Aktas - Secretary and Social Chair

Deniz Kiral - Director of Public Affairs

Guner Firuz - Auditor

Thank you to all of those who attended elections. The new board is excited to serve you in the upcoming year! Please stay tuned for more detailed announcements of plans for the year.
